Retail sales in March were $42.5 billion, up 0.7% from February and an increase of 3.1% from March 2014. Excluding sales by motor vehicle and parts dealers and by gasoline stations, retail sales were up by 5.7% from March 2014. Retail sales in volume terms were up 0.1% from February. Increases in month-over-month sales were reported in 7 of 11 sectors representing 71% of retail trade. March 2015 sales over March 2014 were up in six provinces. The Consumer Price Index rose by 0.8% in April compared with April 2014, after increasing 1.2% in March. The CPI in April for goods was down 0.7% from a year earlier while the CPI for services rose 2.0%. Gasoline prices decreased 21.0% from April 2014, after falling 19.2% in March. Overall, energy prices fell 13.5% between April 2014 and April 2015, following a 10.4% annualized rate of decrease in March. Wholesalers sold $53.9 billion worth of goods and services in March, up 0.8% from February and 5.6% higher than in March 2014. Excluding the automotive sector, wholesale sales were up 5.7% from March 2014. In terms of volume, wholesale sales were up 1.0% in March from February.
