Employment in May increased by 14,000 from April.  The unemployment rate was 6.9%, down from 7.1% in April.  Construction employment was up 1.3% from April and manufacturing employment increased 0.7% from a month earlier. Municipalities issued $7.4 billion worth of building permits in February, up 15.5% from January and 10.2% higher than in February 2015.     Four provinces reported an increase in permits over a year ago.  Alberta reported the largest gain, (+25.6%) followed by Ontario (+17.2%).  The largest annualized losses occurred in Nova Scotia (-40.7%), Saskatchewan (-34.3%), and Newfoundland and Labrador  (-20.3%).  Quebec reported a 2.9% annualized decrease. The Consumer Price Index rose by 1.3% in March compared with March 2015, after an annualized increase of 1.4% in February.      The CPI in March for goods was up 0.7% from a year earlier while the CPI for services rose 1.8%. Gasoline prices in March were down 13.6% from  March 2015, after dropping 13.1% in February.  Overall, energy prices declined 7.8% between March 2014 and March 2015, following a 7.2%  annualized rate of decrease in February.  Excluding energy, the annualized Consumer Price Index rose 2.0% in March, down from 2.1% in February. Wholesalers sold $57.0 billion worth of goods and services in January, unchanged from December but 5.9% higher than in January 2015.  Excluding the automotive sector, wholesale sales were up 2.6% from January 2015.       In terms of volume, wholesale sales were down 0.2% in January from December.
