Wholesalers sold $54.2 billion worth of goods and services in October, up 0.1% from September and 7.5% higher than in October 2013.  Excluding the automotive sector, wholesale sales were up 7.4% from October 2013.     In terms of volume, wholesale sales were down 0.1% in October from September. Annualized wholesale sales grew in all provinces.  Newfoundland and Labrador (+23.8%) led the way, followed by Saskatchewan (+12.1%) and Manitoba (+11.2%).  Quebec’s wholesale sales were up 1.9% from October 2013 while Ontario’s annualized gain was 9.4%. Retail sales in October were $42.8 billion, unchanged from September and up 4.9% from October 2013.  Excluding sales by motor vehicle and parts dealers and by gasoline stations, retail sales were up by 3.6% from October 2013.   Retail sales in volume terms were unchanged from September.  Increases in month-over-month sales were reported in 6 of 11 sectors representing 42% of retail trade.  October 2014 sales over October 2013 were  up in all provinces.  Alberta led the way with a 7.2% sales gain, followed by Ontario (+5.9%) and British Columbia (+5.5%).   Quebec recorded a 2.1% gain over...

Employment in November was down 0.1% from October. The unemployment rate was 6.6%, up from 6.5% in October.  Construction employment was down 0.4% from October while manufacturing employment was unchanged from a month earlier. In October, employment stood at 18.0 million, up 0.8% from November 2013.  Full-time employment grew by 5,700 from October, while part-time employment decreased by 16,300 from the previous month.  Full-time employment was up by 80,800 from November 2013, while part-time increased by 65,300 over the same period.
