                                                                                  retail and contractor.  Son-in-law Dave, the
                                                                                  procurement  manager  for  the  business
                                                                                  had the tough job of sourcing commodity
                                                                                  products to satisfy their customers’ needs.
                                                                                  Don’s  daughter,  Rachel, is  the  marketing
                                                                                  co-ordinator  with  the  job  of  letting  the
                                                                                  community  know  about  their  major
                                                                                  expansion.  As well as opening the new
                                                                                  store, they also had to deal with the pains
                                                                                  of installing a new POS system.  The only
                                                                                  consolation to the situation was that every
                                                                                  building  supply  retailer  was  in  the  same
                                                                                  boat!
                                                                                    When  asked  about  a  grand  opening,
                                                                                  Don   and   Kevin  expressed  their
                                                                                  disappointment in not being able to host
                                                                                  one  in  the  spring  and  possibly  not  until
                                                                                  2021  or  2022  due  to  the  restrictions  put
                                                                                  on by the provincial government.  However,
                                                                                  both  sales  and  profitability  were  strong
                                                                                  due  to  the  consumer  demand  during
                                                                                  this  period.    The  excitement  of  a  grand
                                                                                  opening  would  have  been  great,  but  they
                                                                                  are thankful that their customers were very
                                                                                  understanding and supportive during these
                                                                                  challenging times.
                                                                                    The  truss  plant  is  still  a  major
                                                                                  component  of  the  business  and  Kingdon
                                                                                  Trusses  supplies  quality  trusses  to  many
                                                                                  of  the  regional  building  supply  retailers.
                                                                                  With 3 boom trucks and 3 cranes, as well
                                                                                  as other delivery vehicles, this business is
                                                                                  positioned  for  growth.    Moving  towards
                                                                                  other  product  categories  such  as  power
                                                                                  equipment;  becoming  a  local  Husqvarna
                                                                                  servicing  dealer;  and  providing  kitchen
                                                                                  installations, they are giving consideration
                                                                                  to rental to complement their power tool
                                                                                  and equipment business.
                                                                                    The  “new  normal”  has  exposed  some
                                                                                  infrastructure   inefficiencies   in   their
                                                                                  community  and  the  recent  provincial
                                                                                  announcement  towards  strengthening
                                                                                  broadband  internet  service  has  been  well

                                                                                  size during these unprecedented times.
