hydro pole business and started Trans
Canada Pole Ltd. When the company
became large enough it relocated to the
edge of Barrie in about 1987; then in
1997 they decided to set up a lumber
yard specializing in species of wood
that was not readily available at other
building supply retailers. The lumber
company is called Trans Canada Wood
Products Ltd.
Business boomed. An unfortunate
event (the massive ice storm of 1997
in Eastern Ontario and into Quebec)
created a demand for his treated poles.
During the ice storm, Trans Canada Wood
Products shipped seventy-seven truck
loads of treated utility poles to that
devastated area to help restore services.
Gaining a reputation as a provider of
quality wood products at fair prices, the
business grew and Richard expanded
his product offerings to include many
species of lumber not commonly
available at other yards such as: Douglas
Fir timber, Western Red Cedar, White
Pine, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, Hemlock,
pressure treated and thermally-modified
lumber. The business truly became a
specialist in providing unique products
