e are blessed to be in an
Windustry that still focuses
on people; where relationships
and friendships are an important
component of how we work with
our employees, suppliers and fellow
owners. This was certainly evident
at our gala event celebrating the
LBMAO’s 100th anniversary on
Thursday, November 16. The Queen’s
Landing Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake
proved to be a wonderful venue with
its “old world” charm and ambiance.
We started in style with the
‘Meet & Greet’ which was held on
Wednesday evening at the Niagara
Oast House Brewery. This was a
casual night of fun, food and local
refreshments; and proved to be
a great way to connect with each
other in a casual social setting. Great
food and tours of this micro brewery
highlighted the evening.
Moving into the next day,
the board had several meetings
culminating in the 100th Annual
General Meeting in the afternoon. A
strong attendance from members,
along with pointed questions on
association business, demonstrated
that our members are keenly
interested in the future of the LBMAO.
The Queen’s Landing is a classic
5-star hotel and was an excellent
choice for the type of event we
were hosting. Quiet nooks with
comfortable seating and pleasant
surroundings in the dining room
helped make the evening special for
all in attendance. The only drawback
was the less than ideal acoustics in
the restaurant where the dinner was
staged but overall a pleasant and
enjoyable evening.
The introductory video reinforced
the strength of the independent
building supply/hardware dealers
and those attending the evening
appreciated the spotlight on
not just the LBMAO but also the
entrepreneurial spirit of those
businesses who have been
successfully operating for 30, 50,
100 years and more. The celebration
was certainly enhanced by the
formal attire worn by the ladies and
