day was interrupted by a short rainstorm/
thunderstorm; but we were able to continue
and finished the day with another great
banquet.
In late August, we hosted the Muskoka/
Georgian Bay District tournament at
Horseshoe Valley Golf Course which is
northwest of Barrie. We were unable to obtain
a firm date at the course we had previously
used in Orillia but were able to secure
Horseshoe Valley for our event. This resort
offers not only golf but many other attractions
such as mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing
and many other activities for families and
outdoors adventurists. The course was in
excellent condition but this venue like some
other golf courses had reduced the number of
holes to twelve from the traditional eighteen.
For the average golfer this is fine - as some
of us are ready to pack it in by twelve holes
- but for some of the real golf enthusiasts
twelve is not enough! The resort hosted a fine
buffet dinner after golf, and it was a warm and
relaxing day.
Our finale for the golf tour was the
Southwestern Ontario District tournament
in early September at Echo Valley Golf Club
just west of London. With about 110 golfers
and 12 hole sponsors, it was a wonderful way
to end the golf tour. The course was in great
shape and it was a beautiful late summer day.
The golf course served a delicious meal and,
I have to say, this course really knows how to
host tournaments with exceptional service
and support. We hope to go back there next
year!
We want to thank all those generous
companies who sponsored holes and for
those who attended these fine events. Golf is
a super way to spend time with friends and
business acquaintances, as well as to build
new relationships.
The Ride is Back
We had been getting inquiries for our
“Cool Car" and Motorcycle Ride as this has
developed into a real fun time. For those who
do not necessarily like golf or curling, this is
an opportunity to network with other like-
minded people who love their cool vehicles
and motorcycles. In past years, prior to
COVID, we had toured Manitoulin Island, the
Thousand Islands area, the beautiful area east
of Algonquin Park, Haliburton Highlands and
the Bruce Peninsula and Owen Sound areas,
visiting building supply retailers, lumber
treaters and suppliers along the way.
This year we chose to tour the southern
Ontario area from Ingersoll down to Port
Burwell, along Lake Erie to Long Point
and back up to Woodstock. We had four
motorcycles and ten “Cool Cars” on our tour
using the historic Elmhurst Inn just off the 401
at Highway 19. The hotel was superb with
well groomed grounds and lots of areas to sit
outside and enjoy the company of our fellow
travellers as they rolled in.
